Penzance Orchestral Society’s Spring concert marks the farewell to the society of our distinguished conductor, Judith Bailey, and leader, Pamela Rosenfeld so they were asked to choose the programme. We will open with Wagner’s glorious overture to his opera Die Meistersinger. There will then be a performance of Tchaikovsky’s profoundly romantic Piano Concerto no 1 (soloist to be announced). The second half will stay in Russia for what is surely one of Shostakovich’s most enduringly popular masterpieces, his Symphony No 5.
