Penzance Orchestral Society’s autumn concert will open with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture no 3, which expresses the passion and bravery of the heroine of his only opera, Fidelio. Next we are thrilled to be joined for the second time by superb young violin virtuoso Preston Yeo, who’ll be playing Sibelius’ hugely popular violin concerto. After the interval we’ll stay in Scandinavia for Nielsen’s glorious first symphony, which he wrote in the 1890s. Rich in characteristically Danish melodies, this has all the  infectious energy you’d expect from a composer in his late twenties.
