The Minack Academies
Our Minack Academies help young people to develop advanced theatre skills. Specialising either in Acting or Musical Theatre, you will spend one day a month working with professional practitioners and hear visiting speakers, such as directors, actors and West End stars, talking about practical theatre careers. As a member of the Acting Academy your training will include a one to one singing lesson each month.
The Acting Academy can also help you prepare for Trinity College Examinations in drama.
Entry to the Minack Academies is by annual audition and places are limited.

Each child will need to be booked individually and cannot be booked under the same order, for siblings you will be required to book one at a time. Due to Covid-19 restrictions we are very limited on the number of people we are able to allow in to the theatre at any one time. If a member of your household displays symptoms of Covid-19 please do not travel to the theatre and contact us for alternative arrangements.
The Acting Academy meets once a month, here at Minack and is led by the theatre’s Artistic Director, John Brolly. The Academy works on developing acting and improvisational skills and benefits from visits from top industry professionals. It also offers performance opportunities with visiting companies and Trinity Acting exams. Recent highlights include workshops in stage combat, capoeira, pantomime and directing.

Musical Theatre Academy Auditions.
The academy meets once a month in person or online. The academy is led by British Theatre Academy's Artistic Director, Dean Johnson. The academy has had the privilege of working with many top West End stars and Educators. Over the past 2 years the academy members have studied in depth the history of musical theatre, including the work of various musical theatre composers including Rogers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim and Jason Robert Brown to name a few. We work in depth at acting through song, the delivery of monologues and how to engage a large audience.
Auditions for young people aged 8-20.
Auditions are by self-tape. Auditionees will be required to sing a musical theatre song to show acting through song of no longer than 2 minutes. A short dance piece may also be included, but is not compulsory.
All self-tapes are to be submitted to [email protected] by 4pm on Sunday 4th October.
Would you like to take part in a Minack production?
The Minack Youth Theatre
Our Youth Theatre programme offers fun, creative activities for young people age from 7+. Just join our mailing list and we’ll offer you a place on at least 2 workshops a year, appropriate for your age group.
There is no fee for joining our Youth Theatre and all our workshops are free.
Primary Plays in a Day
Workshops often take the form of a fun day in which you’ll get to try out lots of different theatre skills. Working with our professional practitioners, you’ll take part in workshops in acting, dance, music and making stuff (like props for a show). By the end of the day, you’ll have created an amazing show and get to perform it on the Minack stage.
Secondary Plays in a Day
Work with professional directors to create a short piece of theatre that is performed at the end of the day. During the year we work with brand new plays, Shakespeare stories and devised pieces.
Audition for a Show
As a Youth Theatre member you’ll also be kept informed of auditions for productions at the Minack suitable for your age. These take the form of group workshop sessions, in which you’ll get to play little scenes as well as join in theatre games.
