2022 is a very special year for the Minack Theatre. It's the 90th anniversary of the first performance on our stage. We're putting on a range of events and activities across the year, so that our visitors can join with us in celebrating this amazing achievement.
This Rough Magic
Enjoy a new exhibition telling the story of the first performance of The Tempest. Find out what the Minack theatre was like in 1932 and discover the three remarkable women without whose inspiration the Minack might never have been created – Rowena Cade, ex-schoolteacher, Dorothea Valentine and artist, Hilda Quick.
Find This Rough Magic in the theatre, next to the cafe.
Not everyone can enjoy a visual display - please ask our box office team about Touch Tours of this exhibition.
Meet Mr Macaulay
Mr Macaulay played Prospero in The Tempest, the Minack’s first ever production. 80 years later he has returned (performed by actor John Brolly) to recreate his favourite moments from the show. But he needs your help. Join him on stage and become a part of his unique performance.
See The Tempest live on stage
Hertfordshire Players present Shakespeare's The Tempest at the Minack, 21 - 25 August.
Shakespeare’s great drama of revenge and reconciliation is haunted by the sea, its power, its mystery and its constantly changing nature. It is also a drama created by the magician Prospero and his spirits, played out for him and us together. So it is fitting that this is the most performed of all Shakespeare’s plays at Minack, as well as the very first to have been staged here back in 1932.
