Three established, regionally based artists have come together to form a new musical force. Gravity is Carly McKean, Martin Sadler and Justin Bradley. To describe their music in pure genre terms would be difficult; their shared passion for trans-Atlantic voice led roots music, informed by folk, rock, indie, western classical and world influences, gives more than a clue to the far-reaching journey they share, and on which they invite their audiences to participate.
Born in Glasgow, Carly comes from a musical family and took up bass trombone from an early age. Carly toured nationally with her band, visiting Cornwall regularly between the ages of 8 and 15. These touring visits left their mark and Carly settled in St. Ives whilst still in her teens. She has subsequently established a reputation as one of Cornwall’s finest vocal artists, with experience of performing internationally as well as locally.
The guitar in the corner beckoned and Martin could not resist. He started playing as a child and soon after was offered a banjo which he equally took to. Martin embarked upon the East Anglian folk club scene, resulting in his first solo gig performing to an audience of approximately 600 at 12 years old. Martin’s influences are wide ranging, encompassing funk, soul, rock, Celtic music, and his first ‘love’, bluegrass.
Justin returns to the Minack following a successful concert in 2017, which celebrated the voice of the violin in the diverse world of traditional folk and gypsy music. Justin’s musical journey commenced at 4 years old under the guidance of his father, the acclaimed violinist / composer, Desmond Bradley. Whilst deeply valuing his classical roots, Justin continues to explore many other musical cultures and styles.
