Newport Playgoers Society recently scooped a host of prizes, including best
production, best actor and best newcomer, at the Gwent Drama League
Awards with this production.
"Under Milk Wood" evokes the Wales of Dylan Thomas’ life and recollections
exuding warmth, humour and pathos in equal measure. The play deals with
life, love and loss and conjures the intimate dreams and desires of the colourful
inhabitants of a fictional seaside town. The storyteller invites the audience to
listen in on the dreams of the fictional small Welsh village of Llareggub, and
their innermost thoughts and dreams are laid bare to us.
There is Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard, relentlessly bossing her two dead husbands;
Captain Cat reliving his seafaring times; the two Mrs. Dai Breads; Organ
Morgan, obsessed with his music; and Polly Garter pining for her dead lover.
Later, the town wakes and we see them go about their daily business, aware
of how their feelings affect whatever they do.
