Restoration comedy through the satirical lens of Brecht with a theme which spans the centuries

Epic, Political, HYSTERICAL theatre

1776 - In the New World there is revolution and disobedience like never before. Boston has fallen! Recruitment is the name of the game! In Shrewsbury Captain Plume and Sergeant Kite are unable to recruit men successfully bylLegal means, so they use Illegal ones. With the help of the local Justice of the Peace, Judge Balance, they clean up Shrewsbury and find the able-bodied poor guilty of assorted petty crimes. Their punishment? To fight for Good King George!

Captain Plume? What a soldier! You should have seen him fighting at Bunker Hill in his red coat and shiny boots. A soldier lives at a fast pace, he takes his meals on the run. There’s no time for complicated dishes. For him, it’s a quick, nourishing snack, then saddle up!

Victoria Balance has certainly seen his boots and has loved him since she was a schoolgirl. He is often busy with other women so she disguises herself as a young ensign to pursue her love and follow him to War.

Huge characters, frantic action, a complete disrespect for authority, friendly sexual innuendo, biting political satire and a smattering of cross-dressing.

A visual delight suitable for all the family, brought to you by Hertfordshire Players, 4 times winners of the coveted Minack Trophy, most recently for 'Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds' in 2008".
